The Evolution Of Gifts In Kalyteros

In 1920, the King of the Gods grew tired of the heavens so he came down to Earth to form a new kingdom. He and his three daughters gave a small portion of their power to the people they now ruled over in the hopes it would make them more amenable. Those people had one of three gifts: storm-bending, water-bending, or fire-bending.

Some people only married and had children with those that had the same gift as them to keep their gift "pure". That resulted in families with only one type of gift over a handful of generations. The Pyrrhus family is an example of this type of family.

Other people married and had children with whomever they wanted, creating new gifts from their blended DNA. Those families are the reason why so many different gifts now exist throughout Kalyteros.

There are some gifts, though, that came about due to genetic mutations. Those gifts are extremely rare. Some examples include teleportation, telekinesis, and invisibility. These types of gifts are always feared when they first appear.
